iSi Health Interuniversity Workshop on in Silico Health: A convergence among scientific minds

To expand the horizons of in silico techniques and foster connections among researchers, an interuniversity workshop on in silico medicine, hosted by different Flemish universities (KU Leuven, Ghent University, the University of Antwerp, and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel) took place on the 20th-21st of September 2023 in Leuven, Belgium. The workshop began with the introductory talk on EDITH-CSA, where Liesbet Geris, Professor in Biomechanics and Computational Tissue Engineering at the University of Liège and KU Leuven, and VPH Institute’s Executive Director, presented the roadmap of the ecosystem for Virtual Twins in Healthcare, inviting the community for feedback.

Over these two dynamic days, the attendees immersed their scientific minds in the realm of mechanistic, physics-based models, and in silico applications in health, delving into crucial themes, such as credibility in in silico models, artificial intelligence for healthcare simulations, and the real-world impact of in silico techniques. The workshop included also hands-on activities to explore patient and public involvement in health simulations, encourage discussions on ground-breaking clinical applications, and emphasize science communication skills. A platform for young researchers for their poster sessions has been provided.
